The seventh silver coin in the Czech Mint's Cat Breeds series features the Sphynx.
This hairless breed, whose history began in Canada in the 1960s, immediately catches the eye with its naked appearance. However, Sphynx cats are not completely bald – their entire body is covered with short, fine hair. Although they are medium-sized cats, the absence of fur makes them look more like small wild animals. This makes their distinctive muscles and large earsstand out even more. Their wedge-shaped head is also striking, with prominent cheekbones and a wrinkled forehead. The loose skin with lots of wrinkles is very soft to the touch. It might seem that naked cats do not need much care, but regular baths. Fortunately, they like water. They are playful and cuddly. They are resistant to stress but cannot stand loneliness. They form close bonds with people.
On the reverse side of the coin, which is the work of medal maker David Kružliak, the Sphynxappears twice. The first image is colored, highlighting the bare skin. The second, which is embossed, shows a cat lying on a cushion. The composition is completed by the inscription SPHYNX. On the obverse side, which is common to the entire series, you will find the silhouette of a cat and paw prints. As the coins of the Czech Mint are issued with a foreign license from the island of Niue, they also bear its national emblem, the nominal value of 1 DOLLAR (NZD) and the year of issue 2025.
