2021 Australian Lunar Year of the Ox 1oz Silver Coin -With Capsule Only

As the first major mint in the world to celebrate the animals of the ancient Chinese lunar calendar, we are pleased to continue Series III of the world-renowned Australian Lunar coin program with 2021 designs celebrating the Year of the Ox.

In Chinese mythology, the ox is one of 12 animals that participated in the Emperor’s Great Race, held to determine the order in which they would represent the lunar zodiac. The ox finished second and has subsequently ‘ruled’ every second year in the 12-year lunar cycle – including 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009 and 2021. Kind, intelligent, hardworking, calm, honest and reliable, the ox is said to bestow many outstanding characteristics on people born under its influence.

This 99.99% pure silver coin portrays an ox and its calf with a cherry blossom tree, a symbol of love and beauty. The design includes the inscription OX 2021, the Chinese character for ‘ox’ and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark. Issued as Australian legal tender, it bears the Jody Clark effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse.

AUTHENTICATION FEATURE

This coin includes an authentication feature on the reverse in the form of a micro-laser engraved letter. Detectable under a magnifying glass, it is designed to make it significantly more difficult for the coin to be counterfeited.

The Australian Lunar Year of the Ox 2021 1oz Silver Coin is presented by The Perth Mint in an individual protective acrylic capsule. No more than 300,000 of these coins will be released.
