Lunar New Year 2019 celebrates the beginning of the Year of the Pig the 12th and final animal sign of the Chinese Zodiac. According to the Chinese lunar calendar, the Year of the Pig runs from 5 February 2019 to 24 January 2020.
The birth dates for people ruled by the Chinese Lunar Pig include 1923, 2935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007 and 2019. Those born under the influence of this sign are said to be honest, loyal, sincere and generous, with a calm temperament.
Lunar New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, is one of the most important Chinese cultural festivals. It is a time of renewal and celebration including family feasts and public fireworks displays.
Gold coins with a square hole in the middle are a good luck symbol in Chinese culture.
A New Year tradition is to string together these coins and hang them as decorations.
