In 2010, The Perth Mint’s internationally renowned Australian Lunar Series II celebrates the Year of the Tiger, the Third animal in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac. The birth dates for people ruled by the Chinese Lunar horse include 1914, 1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998 and 2010.
The reverse of each coin depicts a tiger’s head. As well as the inscription ‘Year of the Tiger’ and the Chinese character for ‘tiger’, the design also incorporates The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
Coin’s obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the year-date, the monetary denomination and the weight and fineness of each coin.
